Weddings are fun and all but what to WEAR?! This is a question I get asked A LOT over on Instagram so I’ve rounded up the top 5 places I always hit gold at. All great for hens/baby showers/engagement parties etc etc as well 😉
1.SHEIKE
Full priced Sheike may not always be under $150 but what they DO have are epic sales (I’ve bought $200+ dresses for $50 before), an awesome buy/sell community and styles to suit a range of ages and occasions (they do some killer workwear pieces too!).
Sheike has been my go-to for years but out of the numerous items I’ve bought I only still own 2: the dress I wore to my engagement party which I am keeping around for sentimental reasons (plus, awesome throw on and go dress for the summer) and the other is the one pictured above because, well, I literally just wore it to a wedding in Malaysia last week!
Why do I only have these? because Sheike pieces are so easy to resell on the Facebook Buy/Swap/Sell page!
But my plan is to hold on to this one for a little longer, the print and cut make it super easy to dress up or down over the festive season- a slick of red lippy and away you go!
For the wedding I teamed with $39 Target heels (uber comfy, danced all night in them) and a $35 suede Colette Hayman clutch.
TIP: Colette for accessories
Speaking of Colette, this is my one stop shop when it comes to accessorising a dressy look! Their bags and jewellery have lasted me years and the range is super extensive.
2.THE ICONIC
Are we really surprised to see this up here? :p A few reasons I love The Iconic:
- 3hr delivery in Sydney and same day/next day options Australia wide
- Very easy 30 day free returns (Aus post will print the returns label for you if you don’t have a printer)
- Resealable bags fit returns
- A wide range of brands (they even have Cotton On now!)
- Exclusive brands that have plus size options (Atmos&Here)
- They price match (just jump on the online chat and talk to a rep)
- AND they have the most epic sale events (they had 40% off last month)!
TIP: Product shots don’t do the items justice!
This isn’t just for The Iconic, but online shopping in general.
Look up brand hashtags and accounts on social media to see if you can find a different shot of an item, or see it styled in a different way or on a different body shape. Or, go in store if this is an option.
I recently scrolled right past what I thought was a plain black dress on the Forever New website (currently on sale!) but when I went in the store I realised it actually had a fantastic glittery/shimmery finish to the material and looked amazing on! It’s my new go-to LBD for a winter wedding or dressy event 😀
3.ASOS
I’ve just been reminded that I haven’t shopped at ASOS in while! But I used to alllll the time as I’d signed up to the Premier Delivery service which gives you unlimited express delivery for $39/year! This comes with free returns as well so not a bad deal at all!
ASOS was actually the first online shop I bought anything from. Back before the days of free delivery and in a world of unsure sizing I’d stick to skirt and blouse combos like this.Since I’m smaller up top and bigger down the bottom (classic pear shape!) this was an easy way to buy different sizes for top and bottom rather than a dress turn up and I couldn’t get it past my hips!
TIP: Think outside the box for a wedding look and go for a skirt and blouse or classy jumpsuit.
ASOS is also partial to some epic sale so definitely keep an eye out! Hmmm all this ASOS talk makes me want to do a little hunt again…watch this space!
4.ESTHER BOUTIQUE
Esther Boutique stays stocked year round with a great range of cocktail dresses for night and day weddings but definitely up the ante when Spring/Silly season hits- how good is the one for $90!
They also have a luxe bridal range cater to all your bridesmaid needs. With pieces under the $200 mark that’s a pretty affordable bridal party option!
5.HONOURABLE MENTIONS
The fifth store is actually just a bunch of stores that I’ve struck gold at from time to time when looking for a wedding or dressy outfit! Worth keeping in mind if you’re struggling to find something you like!
